The Spanish professional club was founded in 1902. Real Madrid FC is the first official football club that existed in Madrid. Only three years after Real Madrid FC’s founding they won their first title defeating Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish cup final. The club became one of the founding sides of the Royal Spanish Football Federation in 1909. The sport was first introduced to academic students of the Institución de Ensenanza. They invented Sky Football (Sociedad) in 1897. This was a league only in Madrid. Students were able to play in it every Sunday morning at Moncloa.

In 1929, the first Spanish football league was founded. During its first season, Real Madrid led the whole tournament until the last match when they lost against Athletic Bilbao. They ended up as runners-up to Barcelona. The Madrilene’s club won their first league title in 1931-32.

In 1943 Santiago Bernabéu became the club’s president. It was under Bernabéu’s leadership that Real Madrid became a major force for the Spanish and European football. The club won the European Cup five times In a row form 1956 to 1960.

Real Madrid FC has its own academy, La Fábrica (The Factory). The La Fábrica is considered to be one of the best player development centers in the world. It started in 1942 when a local Madrid club, who then played Spanish Third Division agreed to become Real Madrid’s reserve team in return for financial support. The academy itself was established and developed in the 1950s by former Real Madrid player Miguel Malbo. Since the 50s countless top players have walked through the doors of La Fábrica. A number of La Fábrica’s graduates contributed to Real Madrid’s successes, like Pedro Casado, Iker Casillas, Raúl González Blanco, Dani Carvajal and Nacho Fernandez.

Last year Real Madrid FC became runners-up in the Madrid Football Cup. They lost with a score of 2-1 against their rivals Atletico de Madrid. We are excited to see what they will bring this year to the pitch. Will they take the trophy home this year? We can’t wait to find out on September at Alcobendas.
