Paul Wanner, the youngest player to make his Champions League debut for FC Bayern.

The FC Bayern player made his debut in yesterday’s Champions League match in his team’s victory over Viktoria Plzen.

Paul Wanner (23 December 2005) is an FC Bayern München attacking midfielder who has been gaining importance in the Bavarian team’s youth academy. He extended his contract with his club in January 2022. He made his Bundesliga debut when coach Julian Nagelsmann brought him on as a substitute against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said they are very happy with the player’s development at FC Bayern. “Paul has shown in training with the professionals that he has the chance to grow in our team with his talent. The fact that he is already being used in the Bundesliga at the age of 16 confirms his class, but also the excellent work being done at the FC Bayern campus.”

Paul Wanner made his Champions League debut yesterday, becoming the youngest player to make his Champions League debut for FC Bayern at just 16 years and 293 days. The record was previously held by Frenchman Mathys Tel.

Paul Wanner played in the Madrid Football Cup 2018, facing teams such as Ilves, FC Astana and Crossfire Premier from the United States. Within the German team there were players who are still at FC Bayern looking for a place in the first team such as Arijon Ibrahimovic, Ricardo Wagner or Grayson Dettoni.
