Spectacular tournament at Easter

On April 14, 15, 16 and 17 the Madrid Football Cup Easter Edition was played, with great matches in 4 categories, disputed by teams and academies from 5 countries.

Atlético de Madrid, Madrid CFF and Hammarby U-14 played a very even Round Robin where the three teams demonstrated the great work they do in women’s football. The first match in this category was between Atlético de Madrid and the Swedish team, where in regular time they tied goalless, but in the penalty shootout Hammarby beat Atlético de Madrid 7-6, with a great performance of their goalkeeper Tilde Nordström.

In the second match was a derby of the capital, where Atletico Madrid beat Madrid CFF 0-1 leaving them with no option to the title. In their last match Hammarby had to beat Madrid CFF if they wanted to lift the trophy. Madrid took the lead in the first half, but with great attitude the Swedish team managed to turn the score around to beat the Spanish team 2-1 and win the title.

In the U-12 category, there were two groups of 4 teams each. The champion of this category was ED Moratalaz, having a great performance in the group phase, playing great football, beating FIE Academy 1-4 in the final. Rivellino, a team from Brazil, came in 4th place in the category, but showed that Brazilians have an enormous capacity to play football, cheering up the stands with their attitude. Hammarby U-12 did not get the results they wanted in the group stage, but the girls and the coach were very satisfied with the experience of playing against teams from other countries.

The U-14 category was played in one group. The champion of this category were the Brazilians from Rivellino making a great final beating Atletico La Garena from Spain 4-8. The Hammarby girls did a great tournament surprising all their rivals showing great physical football in spite of the high temperatures that we suffered during that weekend. The Swedish girls finished in 4th place in this category tying 1-1 against Moratalaz in regular time, losing 3-2 in the penalty shootout.

One of the big surprises of the tournament was the U-19 category where there were teams from Japan, Korea and academies from Madrid. The FC Europlus team was a worthy candidate for the title from the group stage, showing great football and defensive solidity. This team did not concede a single goal in the entire tournament.  The Futbol Pro X Talents academy had a very good tournament where they finished in second place, losing the final against the Japanese team.
