We have great memories when Gianluigi Donnarumma made his appearance at the Madrid Football Cup 2014. He stood out for his great height while still under 14 years old, he also had great reflexes that were going to take him far.
Today, his great performances between the posts have put him on a par with the greatest, and he is competing for the title of best goalkeeper of 2021 alongside Édouard Mendy (Chelsea FC) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern München).
This nomination puts him on the same level as historic goalkeepers who have won this award in previous years such as Gianluigi Buffon (2017), Thibaut Courtois (2018), Alisson Becker (2019) or Manuel Neuer (2020).
During 2021 he played an important role in Italy’s triumph at Euro 2020. He kept a clean sheet in the group stage, achieved an unbeaten record of 1,168 minutes and excelled in the penalty shootout in the semifinal against Spain and in the final against England. Thanks to his great effort during the continental tournament, he was named Player of the Tournament.
We are proud to see how the best players in the world have been part of the best U-14 tournament.
